Biographical Note

Justice Barkett was born in Mexico to Syrian parents. Moved to Miami at age six. Entered a convent at age 17 and served for eight years. Graduated from Spring Hill College in Alabama in 1967 and from the University of Florida College of Law in 1970. Governor Bob Graham appointed her to the circuit court in 1979. She was appointed by Gov. Graham to fill the vacancy left by retiring Justice James Alderman. CJ in 1992. President Clinton appointed her to a lifetime appointment on the Federal bench in 1993. Women's Hall of Fame inductee 1986.

From 1963 to 1992, photographer Donn Dughi worked for a number of media outlets in Tallahassee, including WCTV, the United Press International (UPI), and the Associated Press. From 1992 until his retirement in 2001, Dughi was a photographer for the Florida House of Representatives.
