General Note

  • Accompanying note: "NAS Key West firefighters looking over fire damage. Note firefighter at right using OBA re-breather unit for SCBA unit. Also note the lack of complete firefighting gear being worn. In the early days of firefighting it wasn't uncommon to only have a bunker coat, helmet and gloves to combat fires. It wasn't until the mid 1970's that this practice was discontinued. Firefighter 2nd from right is Roland McCutcheon."
  • Accompanying newspaper article cut 10/31/58 indicates: A jet engine broke from a testing table causing approximately $50,000 damage and slightly injuring two airmen, C.D. West and W.G. Guinn.
