Description
This memorandum was written by E.J. Keefe, Chairman of the Food Division of the Hillsborough County Defense Council, and R.D. Jackson, Chairman of the Agriculture Division of the same organization. The purpose of the memo was to encourage shippers, purchasers, and other people involved in the marketing and sale of fresh produce to sell more Florida produce in Florida and avoiding shipping produce in from other parts of the United States. The object was to conserve transportation space, which was in serious demand during the wartime emergency. Keefe and Jackson explain thei reasoning for the request using iceburg lettuce and carrots as examples.
