Description
This film offers a melodramatic countdown of the 10 days leading up to March 3, 1862, when Union forces discovered that Confederate troops had abandoned Fort Duncan Lamont Clinch without a fight. The narrator recounts the fort's history and its gradual decline in defenses and troop occupation. The camera pans around the deserted fort as the narrator describes the peaceful taking of the unarmed and unmanned fort. The film also relates the story of an escaped slave who rowed out into the harbor to inform Union troops that the fort had been deserted. This film shows the history of Florida seen through visits to historic sites, including Crystal River Historic Memorial (prehistoric mounds) and Cape Florida State Park. The story of Spanish campaigns is shown with panoramas, art and maps. Viewers see Fort Caroline on the St. Johns River, St. Augustine, Castillo de San Marcos, and San Marcos de Apalachee at St. Marks. Modern arrows with plastic nocks are used to indicate Seminole activity. The film also shows Dade Battlefield Historic Memorial near Bushnell, Fort Pickens at Pensacola, Fort Clinch in Fernandina, Olustee Monument, Natural Bridge Monument near Tallahassee, and Gamble Mansion Historic memorial in Ellenton. This film documents a group of skiers as they make a 17-day trip on water skis to the New York World's Fair. Along the way they promote St. Petersburg as a town for "young and old alike." The narrator, Communications Chief Jim Gray, describes the intention of the trip, the difficulties the skiers and boat drivers encounter and each place the skiers stop and speak with the press. The skiers go south through Venice and Fort Myers before cutting across the state via the Okeechobee Waterway. The group then travels up Florida's Atlantic coast, stopping in Jensen Beach, New Smyrna Beach, Jacksonville Beach and Fernandina. They continue along the coast stopping in other states before reaching the Statue of Liberty and New York City. This 1,600 mile trip by amateur skiers ends with a performance at the World's Fair Marina. Produced by FDC; sponsored by St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce.

This film shows camping and recreation areas available in Florida during the 1960s. There are scenes of state parks, national forests and national parks, including Fort Clinch, Florida Caverns, Everglades National Park and Apalachicola National Forest. Families are shown enjoying park facilities and recreational activities during their camping trips. Two Boy Scouts canoe down the Suwannee River from the Stephen Foster Memorial to Manatee Springs State Park, and they see the paddle wheel replica “Suwannee Belle” and camp at Suwannee River State Park. At Highlands Hammock, a guide feeds marshmallows to an alligator to entertain a tour group. Finally, a young couple on their honeymoon visit Everglades National Park and boat to a campsite on an island in the Florida Keys.
