This film is part one of a two-part program on Florida alligators. The film describes how the alligator survived for millennia, only to be hunted to near extinction in the 20th century. Several of Florida's authorities on alligators, including Dr. Archie Carr of the University of Florida, Tommy Himes, David Deets of the Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission and alligator expert Ross Allen, provide enlightening information on Florida's most famous and least understood native resident. Moderator Ralph Renick tries valiantly to manage a timer and buzzer mechanism as the candidates argue the issues of the day. There are processing marks through most of film, but otherwise the quality is very good.
