- Gov. Haydon Burns introduces this film describing the reasons, location and other details of the Cross Florida Barge Canal. The canal was being built at the time the film was made. The film has illustrations showing proposed design, testimony by the geologist, sequences of Florida industry, footage of flooding in March 1960 and an enemy submarine threat sequence. - Gov. Bryant speaks on the Florida State Fair, President Kennedy's visit the year before, changes in retailing and banking, and notes the interaction of state and federal governments. He also describes procedures needed in the welfare system, care for the aged and care for the mentally disabled. He says that there are over 8,300 more state employees than when he took office, most in higher education, and that the state universities' staffs are expanding. He tells how expanding highways require more personnel and money. He talks about other changes due to growth in the state and says that we must keep up with it. Produced by FDC. - This film opens with Gov. Farris Bryant speaking from a vantage point overlooking Apalachee Parkway (Highway 27) in Tallahassee. The roadway is an example of the progressive new four-lane highway system project underway in the state. The film continues with many shots of Florida's "attractive" highway system. There is footage of Cape Canaveral and other Florida industries, as well as aerial footage of several Florida cities. Produced by the Florida State Road Department.
