- Ricky has recently returned to Tampa from New York after being away for eight years. His uncle Manuel, a cigar manufacturer, tells Ricky about the early days of cigar production while they watch a film titled "From Leaf to Lip." Manuel encourages Ricky to visit the cigar factory for a tour. Before he takes the tour, Ricky's aunt Lisa shows him how Tampa has developed in the years since he's been gone during a car trip to the harbor and Tampa Industrial Park. They enjoy lunch together at the Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City, where Ricky becomes distracted by a beautiful woman. Lisa drops him off at the factory and the foreman, Luis, shows Ricky the different areas of production where cigars are made by hand, including the casing, blending, stripping and packing areas. At the end of the tour, Ricky meets Maria, Luiz's daughter and the beautiful woman he saw at the restaurant. The next day is the Gasparilla Festival and there is footage of the invasion of the bay by the Jose Gasparilla ship, a parade and the crowning of the festival queen. The following day Maria gives Ricky a tour of the factory where machines manufacture the cigars. He invites her to dinner, and during dinner he decides that he'll stay in Tampa to work for his uncle.
