Description: Two audio cassettes. A glendi is a Greek festival, which can take the form of a fair or festival. Recording of a glendi in Tarpon Spring, including church choirs, interviews with Czechoslovakian and Greek residents, Greek and Czechoslovakian singers, and an interview with the chairman of Tarpon Springs Chamber of Commerce. Side two is blank.

Description: One audio cassette. Williams, Ella, and Lilly were recorded in Newberry on 27 May 1978; Brown was recorded in St. Petersburg on 10 May 1978; and the shape note singers were recorded in Crestview on 18 May 1980. (For the full recording of the shape note singers, see S 1576, reels T83-82 through T83-85.) These were field recordings from the Florida Record Project. That project, along with work for the North Florida Project, resulted in the two-album recording, Drop On Down in Florida, an exploration of African American musical styles in Florida.

David Parker Bennett interview for the Folk Arts Apprenticeship Program

Date: 1985-02-21
Description: One audio cassette. Bennett was a fiddler and folklorist. He wrote his Master's thesis at the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill) in 1940: A Study in Fiddle Tunes From Western North Carolina. In the interview, Bennett discusses his research, fellow bluegrass and old-time musicians, and recording various musicians.

Date: 1976-01-06
Description: One audio cassette. Recording of a epiphany day service. The Epiphany of Our Lord is a Christian rite celebrated within the Eastern Orthodox faith. Epiphany is a Greek word meaning to make known, and refers to the visit of the Magi to Christ, thereby making him known to the world. It is the climax of the twelve days of Christmas. Tarpon Springs boasts a large Greek American community.

The Florida Folk Arts Survey was conducted in 1987 by folklorists Tina Bucuvalis, Steve Frangos, Merri Belland, and Barbara Seitz as preliminary research for a joint folk arts project between the Florida Folklife Program and the Florida Museum of History. The field researchers focused on those areas previously overlooked by FFP staff. The research focused on identifying folk artists and locating appropriate exhibit objects.

Florida Memory is a digital outreach program providing free online access to select archival records from collections housed in the State Library and Archives of Florida. Florida Memory digitizes materials that illuminate the state's history and culture.

Florida Memory is funded under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Florida's LSTA program is administered by the Department of State's Division of Library and Information Services.

For FY2022-23, the percentage of total costs for the Florida Memory program financed with federal money is 66%; the federal dollar amount to be spent on the program is $646,422. This program does not receive any non-governmental funding.
