The Black Hat Troubadour, another nickname for McLean based on the hat he often wore (such as in this image), he authored over 3500 songs, and was a national figure on the folk music scene. A fifth generation Floridian, he died in 1990.

Description
Eighteen color slides. Images of artist Pam Maneeratara's carved fruit and vegetables. Called Kae Sa Luk, this is a 700 year-old craft taught to school girls while learning culinary skills. The usual motifs is floral. She uses a bird's beak knife, which was specially ordered from Thailand. Pam's mother was the cook for Bahn Thai, a family-owned restaurant in Tallahassee. The Florida Folk Arts Survey was conducted in 1987 by folklorists Tina Bucuvalis, Steve Fragos, Merri Belland, and Barbara Seitz as preliminary research for a joint folk art project between the Florida Folklife Program and the Florida Museum of History. The field researchers focused on areas previously overlooked by FFP staff. The research focused on identifying folk artists and locating appropriate exhibit objects.

Twenty-six color slides. Images of the exhibit in Secretary of State George Firestone's office about the Folk Arts Apprenticeship program. Contains images, descriptions, and examples of work made by master artists and their apprentices (e.g. saddles, paintings, and embroidery.) The Folk Arts Apprenticeship Program began in 1983 with a NEA grant of $22,000. The program provided an opportunity for master folk artists to share technical skills and cultural knowledge with apprentices in order to keep the tradition alive. Apprentices must have had some experience in the tradition and agreed to train for at least six months. The first project director was Blanton Owen, who was later replaced by folklorist Peter Roller. The program was continued each year through 2003.
