Pioneer Homes: 23 minutes. Frog and Cypress Knee Museum owner Tom Gaskins making cypress shingles and discussing carpentry, jokes, hunting stores, and local lore. For more, see FV-32. One video cassette. (3/4" tape; 32 minutes) A completed episode of Florida Yesterday, hosted by Frog Smith. Called Pioneer Homes, it involved Frog and Cypress Knee Museum owner Tom Gaskins making cypress shingles and discussing carpentry, jokes, hunting stores, and local lore. Also includes ten minutes of cutaways and inserts of the museum, including the workshop, signs, and exhibits. Description
Four color slides. Images of Seminole patriarch Billy Bowlegs III at the Florida Folk festival in the 1950s. Bowlegs was famous as a hunting guide in the early twentieth century. Before dying in 1965 at his Brighton Seminole Reservation home, Bowlegs participated in every Florida Folk Festival.

Description
Sixteen proof sheets, with 538 black and white images (plus negatives). The Florida Folk Arts Survey was conducted in 1987 by folklorists Tina Bucuvalis, Steve Frangos, Merri Belland, and Barbara Seitz as preliminary research for a joint folk art between the Florida Folklife Program and the Florida Museum of History. The field researchers focused on those areas previously overlooked by FFP staff. The research focused on identifying folk artists and locating appropriate exhibit objects.

Seventeen color slides. Vickers was a long-time catfisher, who also gigged frogs to help earn more money for his family. Two images of a gate on his property with a Keep Closed sign. In the same box, folder 10, there is a transcript of the interview, but there is no tape. In 1992, the Palm Beach Community College contracted the Florida Folklife Program to conduct ten days of fieldwork in March 1992 around Lake Okeechobee for a Lakefront Legacy Festival later that year (16 May 1992). Headed up by FFP folklorist Debbie Fant, and assisted by Robert Stone and Robert Shanafelt, the fieldwork involved 26 informants, slides, print images and recorded interviews. In the end, the FFP recommended seven people for festival participation.

12 color slides. Sam Griffin was the son of a commercial fisher on Lake Okeechobee, who then moved in 1948 to sportsfishing. Sam began making lures to support his father's business. His business had 12 full-time employees, all females, and make 300,000 lures a year. One color slide. The images were created for the Florida Folklife Program's Seminole Slide and Tape Project, a program sponsored by the American Express Company in 1982-1983 to create two educational slide/tape programs for use by schools, community groups, and other educational outlets. One program dealt with sweetgrass basket making; the other on traditional Seminole patchwork. Recordings of the finished program tapes can be found in S 1576, Box 10. Teacher guides, program scripts, and documentation of the project can be found in S 1595, Box 1.
