One audio cassette. On side A, Folklorist Peggy Bulger discusses the nature of folklore and folklife; talks about her objectives as a folklorist; and explains how she conducts her studies. Bulger talks about the Florida Folklife Program; her role as an advocate for folk artists and folk culture; how she identifies folk artists and folk culture; providing analysis and evaluation of the information she collects; folklife programs such as Florida Folk Festival, television documentaries and video programs, slide/tape programs for schools, exhibits, and record albums. In addition, she talks about what drove her interest in folklore and discusses how she became a folklorist and explains how folklife traditions are found in all parts of life.

On side B, Barbara Beauchamp, a participant in the first Florida Folk Festivals of the 1950s, discusses her family history and her home; the first attendees and organizers of the event, such as Fuller Warren, Thelma Boltin, Sarah Gertrude Knott, Ada Miller, Mrs. W.A. Saunders, and Alton Morris; the founding of the Stephen Foster folklife center in White Springs, Florida; and the performers in the earliest festivals, such as the Beseda Dancers from Masaryktown, Florida, and Greek performers from Tarpon Springs. In addition, she talks about the Fox Hollow folk festival; local hotels; and the Old Marble Stage at the Stephen Foster Center.

One audio cassette. Side A, Interview of Dave Closson: The hard copy transcript and cassette recording of this interview only feature Closson's responses. They do not include the interviewer's questions. Closson discusses what constitutes tradition (traditionality); defines the term "folk;" and talks about studying minority groups, folklorists' sense of objectivity, the geographical scope of the Florida Folklife Program, producing folk studies for both scholars and the public, folk differences in Florida, and the Florida Folk Festival.

Side B, Interview of Ormond Loomis: The hard copy transcript and cassette recording of this interview only feature Loomis’s responses. They do not include the interviewer’s questions. Loomis discusses a fur and hide trading company in western Florida; the Great Gulf Coast Arts Festival; uses for Florida folklife studies; stereotypes about folk culture (which many automatically consider as being rural, regressive, and Appalachian or of the deep South); cultural group identities; defining and preserving folklore; tradition bearers; and valuing forms of informal education.

One audio cassette. Part A, Interview with Merri Belland: Belland discusses her start at the Florida Folklife Program center in White Springs. She previously worked as an artist for a grant project teaching traditional arts and crafts and eventually took on duties as a folklorist. She also talks about working on the Florida Basketry project; fieldwork; problems as a folklorist; maintaining a sense of objectivity; training; the different ways in which folklorists and artists view material culture; motives behind working in crafts; the role she sees for herself as a folklorist; young people and traditional crafts; passing down culture through food.

Part B, Interview with Bob McNeil: McNeil discusses his start working as an archivist at the Stephen Foster Center. He talks about the organizing systems he uses at the archives; the archives’ holdings; what he considers the mission of the Stephen Foster Folk Center; sea stories; and the public and journalists’ use of the center’s folk materials.
