She described her experiences telling stories growing up, as well as a story about the Florida Panther, Cracker culture, and other old Florida tales. She is accompanied by a guitarist, Jamie Green. Smith tells a ghost story from Cousin Thelma Boltin.

Gunter talked about how he once outran the Highway Patrol; told a story an old man thought to be crazy in their neighborhood; spoke about white woman who raised him when he was young; described the near-enslavement she endured as a child; and spoke of segregation in the South and race relations in the North.

Description
Two audio cassette recordings. The last portion of side B of tape C93-28 is spliced with the first portion of C93-29. Koontz, from Tallahassee, describes how she became a storyteller. She starts a Seneca Indian story called "How Stories Came Into the World." The tape cuts off and resumes as she's telling a story about how butterflies got their name. She then tells a story called "The City Mouse and the Country Mouse," followed by an African folk tale called "Rabbit and Hyena Play" while accompanying herself on kalimba, an African thumb piano. Smith tells a story about Epaminondas and his grandmother. Durden, a teacher at Hogan-Spring Glen Elementary School in Jacksonville, tells a story about Tippery the Hungry Leprechaun and the origin of potatoes in Ireland. Smith then told another story.
