One proof sheet with thirty-six black and white prints. Zora Neale Hurston was a major literary figure, known as one of the nation's preeminent African American writers. She was from Eatonville. Now, each January, the town holds a festival in her honor. 1-4: Festival organizer David Closson; 5-6: Conch and crab fritters by Deborah Chester; 7-12: Good Samaritan foods (BBQ); 13-14: painting called "Wandering Feather;" 15-16: Jewelry maker; 17-19: Clark Fashions; 20-26: George Alexander making BBQ; 27-30: Unidentified; 31-36: Patti's Thing (Jamaican pattie).

Description
57 color slides. The Mexican American Music Survey was created to document the musical traditions of Florida's various Mexican-American communities: Apopka, South Dade County, Immokalee, the St. Johns River Basin, and Central Florida. Funded by a grant from the Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Community Folklife Program, the survey was conducted between 1994 and 1996 by folklorist Robert Stone. Among the musical traditions were serenatas, conjunto, quinceanara ritual music, ranchera Michoacana, mariachi, norteno, Tejano, and pop music. At the end of the project, a sampler music tape was created by the Florida Folklife Program for distribution to various libraries.

During the Second World War, Thelma Boltin was the director of the Gainesville Recreation Department. In the 1950s, Boltin became director of the Florida Folk Festival. c. 1942 - 1945

They discuss acceptance of women in the forestry field, discrimination they faced, descriptions of their respective jobs, types of lumber and forest fires, and typical day at their jobs.
