One audio cassette. Born in Pennsylvania, and at the time a waitress, Hoffman discusses her role in organizing a peace quilt to be presented to Jacksonville's then sister city: Murmansk, Russia. The quilt was created for the Coalition for Peace with Justice. She disccusses organizing the event; finding quilters; the process of making the quilt: 26 quilt patches created separately, then sewn together; discussions of the indivdual patches: the patterns and quilters/creators; and plans for the quilt.

One audio cassette. Sessions, a quilter, was born in Winston County, Alabama, and was eighty-two years old at the time of the interview. In the interview, she discusses coming to Winter Garden, Florida, in the 1920s; learning to quilt from her mother; the tools and methods used in quilting; and quilting patterns such as "rail fence", "trip around the world", "butterfly," "girl with umbrella" and others. In addition, she describes growing up on a farm and planting crops by signs and omens.

One audio cassette. Rowe was a quilter and a former juke (jook) joint cook. In this interview, she discusses both pursuits, as well as her family history and her time with the local Home Demonstration Clubs. For images of Rowe, see S 1577, v. 28, slides 2012-2043. In winter 1985, the Bureau contracted with two folklorists to conduct a folk arts survey of the St. Johns River basin in northeastern Florida. The St. Johns River is the largest and most used river in Florida, supporting much river commerce as well as a modest amount of commercial fishing. Folklorists Mary Anne McDonald and Kathleen Figgen conducted the survey from January through March 1985 under the direction of Folklife Coordinator Blanton Owen and Bureau Chief Ormond Loomis. Documentation compiled in the survey was used to prepare and present the 'St. Johns River Basin Folklife Area' at the 1985 Florida Folk Festival.
