Description
One proof sheet with 20 black and white images (plus negatives). Images of a three-person television crew from WCTV-TV (CBS affiliate in Tallahassee) who filmed an interview with Goodvine, at his Lake City home: 1334 Texas Street. Goodvine was a former turpentine workers, and worked with mules all his life. He learned to make whips in 1914 from his cousin. He sold them from $15 to $30. The Folk Arts in Schools Project in Columbia and Hamilton County was a joint venture between the county school systems and the Florida Folklife Program. The project consisted of field research to identify local traditions and folk artists, and in-school programs conducted by a folklorist and traditionalist, which included visits by local folk artists.

Thirteen color slides. Images of buildings in Apalachicola. 358-361: Houses in Apalachicola; 362-364: shot gun houses; 365-366: Trinity Church; 367: House; 368: Gulf State Bank; 369-370: Gibson Inn. Between 1986 and 1987, a partnership between the Florida Folklife Program and the American Folk Center created the Maritime Heritage Survey Project. Focusing on the Gulf and Atlantic fishing cultures, and utilizing photographs, slides, oral histories, and on-site interviews, the survey climaxed with a demonstration area at the 1987 Florida Folk Festival. The three main researchers were Nancy Nusz, Merri Belland, and project director David Taylor. Additional information on the project can be found in Taylor's project files in S 1716.

Thirty four color slides. Images of fifty-year old blues guitarist Buck Thompson playing tunes that he learned from the radio on his front porch. A lifelong migrant farmer, he played the juke circuit in the 1950s. A sound recording of the performance can be found in S 1714, box 6 reels 23 and 24. In winter 1985, the Bureau contracted with two folklorists to conduct a folk arts survey of the St. Johns River basin in northeastern Florida. The St. Johns River is the largest and most used river in Florida, supporting much river commerce as well as a modest amount of commercial fishing. Folklorists Mary Anne McDonald and Kathleen Figgen conducted the survey from January through March 1985 under the direction of Folklife Coordinator Blanton Owen and Bureau Chief Ormond Loomis. Documentation compiled in the survey was used to prepare and present the St. Johns River Basin Folklife Area at the 1985 Florida Folk Festival.

One proof sheet, with 32 black and whites images (plus negatives). Twenty-six images of fifty-year old blues guitarist Buck Thompson playing tunes that he learned from the radio on his front porch. Also includes six images of the Trivette family playing bluegrass in Fred Perry's home in St. Augustine. Players consisted of Frank Trivette Sr.(banjo, fiddle) Frank Trivette Jr. (guitar), Doug Trivette (guitar), Buddy Beck (mandolin) and Carlos Brackett (bass).
