Boltin served as emcee for the event. The event was held inside the bell tower due to unexpected rain. The Big Bend Musicians were Frank Noegel (on a home-made banjo), Dr. John Green, Claude Bedenbaugh, and Fred Jones. Carol Epperson sang as a substitute for her ill mother. And she played piano for Pursley, making his Stephen Foster memorial debut. McMullen was a member of the Stephen Foster Memorial Commission as well as the Hamilton County Chamber of Commerce and former White Springs mayor. In 1998 he received a Florida Folk Heritage Award from the Florida Dept. of State.

Twenty-one black and white prints. Images from the opening ceremony for the Stephen Foster Memorial (Stephen Foster Center) in White Springs on October 4, 1950. Today the site is a Florida State Park. For several years, the Florida Folklife Bureau worked out of the site as well. This ceremony was the culmination of the work of the Stephen Foster Memorial Commission, created under Gov. Fred Cone in the 1930s. Folklorist Ormond Loomis and David Jumper presented Florida Folk Heritage Awards to Dudley (accepted by Susan Dees), Singleton (accepted by Dean Singleton), Pellicer (accepted by Patricia Danahey), May, and Sanchez. The Florida Folk Heritage Awards were given to significant Florida Folk artists and advocates. Recipients are chosen by the Florida Folklife Council, and given out by the Secretary of State's office.
