57 black and white prints. Images are from a folklife conference held at White Springs January 14-15, 1978. Hosted by the Florida Folklife Program at the Stephen Foster Center (SFC), the conference included folklorists and historians from the Library of Congress (LOC), Smithsonian Institute (SI), University of Florida, as well as throughout Florida and the South. The archives also houses a video of the conference -- V-192. The seminar focused on Hamilton and Columbia counties.

The subject of the meeting was the Heritage Awards and changes to be made to the award ceremony and the process surrounding it were discussed. The Florida Folklife Council (FFC) was created by legislation in 1979 (79-322, SB 1203) within the Department of State to advise the Secretary of State on issues relating to folk arts and folk life as well as stimulate and encourage statewide public interest and participation in folk arts and folklore, sponsor conferences and workshops throughout the state, and make recommendations for the development of a statewide Florida Folk Arts program. The Florida Folklife Council consists of seven members appointed by the Secretary of State for four-year terms.
