Description
Two video cassettes. 20 minutes. (Copy can be found on FV-10, S 1615.) Emmanuel Gombos (influential church lay leader and local high school Greek teacher) on the unique Greek heritage of Tarpon Springs; scenes of local Greek organizations. Created for the Every Island Has Its Own Song project. The finished product was a documentary about Nikitas Tsimouris, a Greek bagpipe player, and his family, and the Tarpon Springs Greek community he lived in. A co-production of WEDO-TV and the FFP, it was funded in part by the Florida Endowment for the Humanities. Offenbach narrated. Folklorist Michael researched, wrote and produced, and Yvonne Bryant was assistant producer.

Fish Stories, Pt. 2: (23 minutes) Continuation of Smith's and Leghr's conversation about fishing in Florida. Pirates & Indians: (22 minutes) Lehr and Smith, filmed at the same time as the above two shows, discussing pirates and Florida native peoples. Music: (2 minutes) the opening credits of episode.

One video recording (VHS; 2 hours) Created by Chestine Epps Curry for the Suwannee County Historical County for Black History month. Includes a re-enactment of emancipation, interview with Charles Shelton author of book on the county and the son of Jessie Reddick Shelton, who was the county's oldest resident (she died at 105), the local NAACP, remarks by the Suwannee County school superintendent and other local leaders, students at Douglas High School, and the local sewing club. Included with the video are handwritten notes by folklorist Beth Higgs. Suwannee County.

Description
One video recording (VHS; 40 minutes) Created by the Northeast Florida Institute for Science, Mathematics and Computers of University of North Florida, and the Florida Community College of Jacksonville, the documentary traces the natural and cultural history of the Suwannee River from its source in the Okeefenokee Swamp to the Gulf of Mexico. Funded through a grant by the Florida Dept. of Education, topics include the relationship between the river, local springs, and the aquifer, as well as human activities along its banks including the Florida Folk Festival, the Battle of Olustee, Stephen Foster, and phosphate mining. Includes footage of Fitchen, Makley, and Slavin performing at the Florida Folk Festival. Also includes much discussion of the natural features and wildlife of the river. It was narrated by Bill Massie, with music by Landon Walker. The video was produced, directed, and co-written by Dr. Ray Bowman.

Recording of a glendi in Tarpon Spring, including church choirs, interviews with Czechoslovakian and Greek residents, Greek and Czechoslovakian singers, and an interview with the chairman of Tarpon Springs Chamber of Commerce. Side two is blank.

Over the years they collected memorabilia and stories about the history of the area. Orignally from Morristown, New Jersey, they moved to Florida in the late 1940s.
