Twenty color slides. For more information on Kelly and the apprentices, see S 1640, box 8, folder 9. The Folk Arts Apprenticeship Program began in 1983 with a NEA grant of $22,000. The program provided an opportunity for master folk artists to share technical skills and cultural knowledge with apprentices in order to keep the tradition alive. Apprentices must have had some experience in the tradition and agreed to train for at least six months. The first project director was Blanton Owen, later replaced by folklorist Peter Roller. The program was continued each year through 2003.

Description
One proof sheets with thirty black and white images (plus negatives). Rondeau and her daughter Chanda were among the first participants in the Florida Folk Arts Apprenticeship Program in 1983-1984. As a master folk artist, Rondeau taught Chanda Irish step dancing. Rondeau, who learned stepdancing in Ireland, ran the Gaelic School of Irish Stepdancing, where the images were taken. The Folk Arts Apprenticeship Program began in 1983 with a NEA grant of $22,000. Fifteen color slides. Mary Marshall was a Ceili music performer, a form of Irish music that developed in the 1850s to accompany informal dances in rural Irish villages. The word derived from "le chiele," which meant to gather together for a chat. Today, those parties are called ceilidhes.

Grupo Canaveral consisted of Hilda Luisa (vocal/maracas); Juan Areco (vocal/guitar); Roberto Perena (harpist); and Nelson Zuleto (vocals/quatro). Performance continues on T86-43. The folklife area in 1986 focused on Miami-Dade, which stemmed from fieldwork work on the 1986 Miami-Dade Folklife Survey, conducted by Lauri Sommers, Tina Bucuvalas, and Nancy Nusz.

Description
One reel to reel recording. Dudley served as emcee. Billie's performance began on T87-34. Also known as Chief Jim Billie, James Billie was elected chairman of the Seminole Tribe of Florida in 1979. It was during his chairmanship, which ended amidst controversy in 2001, that the Seminole peoples' five reservations began their profitable gambling operations. In addition to his administrative duties, the former alligator wrestler and Vietnam vet was also known for his original songs and traditional Seminole stories. He has released several albums. Fiddler Kelly and guitarist Moloney played Irish dance music for dancer Rondeau. Their performance continued on T87-36.
