One video cassette. (3/4" tape) 20 minutes. Sponsored by the Historical Museum of Southern Florida, the festival was held at the Metro-Dade Cultural Center. The festival consisted of folk demonstrations, food booths, workshops, and musical performances. Cultures and folkways exhibited included Mexican, Venezuelan, Haitian. Jamaican, Cuban, African American, and Jewish. In 1987, the name of the festival was changed to the Traditions Festival.

Description
Fifteen color slides. Mary Marshall was a Ceili music performer, a form of Irish music that developed in the 1850s to accompany informal dances in rural Irish villages. The word derived from "le chiele," which meant to gather together for a chat. Today, those parties are called ceilidhes.

Description
Tina Bucuvalas serves as emcee. Keeney (fiddle) discusses learning to play fiddle in Donegal County, Ireland; the importance of Irish folk fiddler John Doherty; and changes in the tradition due to popular tastes in the United States. Maris (Cretan lyra) discusses growing up and learning Cretan music in Athens, Greece; the construction of the Cretan lyra, a three-stringed bowed instrument; and playing Greek folk music in the United States. Martin (fiddle) tells a story about Bob Wills, explains fiddle accompaniment in western swing music, and is accompanied by Clements (guitar, vocals). Keeney, Maris, and Martin are all Florida Folk Heritage Award recipients.
