Two audio cassettes. (Note on depositor agreement that interview cannot be reproduced in newspapers.) Sanchez oversees cane burning and cutting, as well as recruiting workers for a local sugar grower. His father was rancher in Cuba, who left as political exiles in the 1960s. In the interview, he discusses recruiting cane cutters in Jamaica; training workers; pay schemes; labor camps (set-up, conditions); field burning; types of workers: head pushers, ticket writers, camp supt., demonstrators; unions in Jamaica; and working conditions.

Description
Two audio cassettes. The Rivieras emigrated to the US in 1983, settling first in Orange, New Jersey. They raise animals and crops for cooking. They also celebrate traditional Christmas holiday, running from November through February, and include paranadas parties--visits to homes of neighbors. In the interview Lydia and Emilio discuss living in a chickee; raising chickens and rabbits; growing herbs and trees; use of herbs as food; using herbs as medicine; other medicinal cures; Puerto Rican Christmas songs (boleros, merenge); Puerto Rican musical instruments (bongo, maraccas, guiro, cuatio); and parandas.

One audio cassette. Born in Taiwan, Chang constructed small sculptures from rice dough. This art goes back over 2000 years in China, though it is rare to find an practitioner of it. Chang learned from a master artist in Taiwan. In the interview, he discusses his immigration to US; education; work in China; cooking; opening a restaurant in US; rice dough sculpting; training with a master artist; sculpting subjects; tools for sculpting; and status of art in the USA.

Two audio cassettes. Brown began working for US Sugar in 1950 -- he was recruited by them in Jamaica. He was hired as a cane cutter, which was usually done by hand with a machete. By the time of the interview, he was a supervisor of cane cutters. In the interview, he discusses being recruited in Jamaica; the process of cane cutting; the gear required; the type of workers in the field; farm worker housing; other related sugar crop jobs; money earned cutting cane; his opinions of US Sugar and the sugar business; planting and harvesting the crop; and the future of the business.

Two audio cassettes. Rodgers grew up in Kingston, Jamaican before moving to New York City. As an adult, she moved to Florida. She discusses children's games such as The Wolf and Zim, Zim, Zee; jump rope rhymes; children songs; holidays such as Jamaican Independence Day (Jonkonnu); ball games; and chanting games. She also discusses Jamaican foodways.
