Twenty-five color slides. The Folk Arts Apprenticeship Program began in 1983 with a NEA grant of $22,000. The program provided an opportunity for master folk artists to share technical skills and cultural knowledge with apprentices in order to keep the tradition alive. Apprentices must have had some experience in the tradition and agreed to train for at least six months. The first project director was Blanton Owen, later replaced by folklorist Peter Roller. The program was continued each year through 2003.

One proof sheets with 18 black and white images (plus negatives). Five images of Larry Hinman with his crab traps and boat. Ten images of Desuouges making a fishing net. Both were in St. Augustine. Also Three images of the Florida Folklife Program staff (Green and Bryant) at the Stephen Foster Center in White Springs. Created as research for the Minorcan Folklife Area for the 1983 Florida Folk Festival.

One audio cassette tape. Stuart Pacetti and apprentice Darrell Colee discuss net making and its traditions in St. Augustine, especially the Minorcan tradition. They discuss and demonstrate the British and Spanish styles of net making as well as the fibers used in net making and the best times to fish. Robert and Irina Lasic and Srpska Kruna (their dance troupe) discuss and perform Serbian social dance.

The project consisted of field research to identify local traditions and folk artists, a series of five two-day seminars to acquaint teachers with the use of folklore and folk arts, in-school programs conducted by a folklorist and traditionalist, which included visits by local folk artists. Taylor ran it until 1986. In 1988, Gregory Hansen re-initiated it with minor changes.
