Description
One reel to reel recording. Fishing stories workshop: Commerical fishers (Philman from Steinhatchee, and Singleton from Mayport) told tales and personal stories from the fishing industry. The folklife area in 1987 focused on Maritime folklife, which stemmed from Taylor's work on the 1986 Maritime Heritage Project, and cooperative project between the FFP and the Library of Congress.

Description
Twelve color slides. The Folk Arts Apprenticeship Program began in 1983 with a NEA grant of $22,000. The program provided an opportunity for master folk artists to share technical skills and cultural knowledge with apprentices in order to keep the tradition alive. Apprentices must have had some experience in the tradition and agreed to train for at least six months. The first project director was Blanton Owen, later replaced by folklorist Peter Roller. The program was continued each year through 2003.

Bennet (of Welaka) discussed cypress boats; Oxendine discussed hoop nets; Knowles (of Crescent City) talked about crab traps; and the Schmidts discussed net making and shad fishing. They all also discussed the pros and cons of commerical fishing. The Silcox Family were from Middleburg.
