Description
One audio cassette. A duplicate copy can be found on C80-19. This is an unmixed, pre-master third-generation recording of field recordings conducted between 1978 and 1980 from the Florida Record Project. That project, along with work for the North Florida Folklife Project, resulted in Drop on Down in Florida, an exploration of African American musical traditions in Florida.  Tape is in very poor condition and cannot be reproduced.

Two audiocassettes. Ballard was born in Myakka City, where his family dates back to 1860. His father was a beekepper, and when Al retired from the U.S. Army in 1978, he began beekeeping. In the interview, he discusses his family history with beekeeping; main prime product: honey; his business Ballard's Apiary; selling honey: methods, equipment, and buyers; handling swarms and queens; tools used; bee hive boxes; transportation; use of citrus, palmetto and mangrove for pollinating; bee bahvior and life cycle; disease control; myths about bees and honey; ideal bee weather; and Africanized bees.

Two audio casettes. Symonette, the son of pioneer Palm Beach fisher Winifred Symonette, was born in Rivera Beach, and fished until 1966. By the time of the interview, he was a carpenter. He discusses learning fishing from his father at 6; the fishing industry in the 1930s through 1960s; boating; seasonal fishing; types of fishes caught; gill netting; regulations; tackle involved; and moving to carpentry in the 1960s.

They played the Florida Folk Festival from 1983 through the 1990s. A copy of their album, Little Streams of Whiskey, can be found in S 1640, box 21. Murphy was her apprentice in 1990-1991.&nbsp;
