Twenty-four color slides. A travelling exhibit concerning the occupational groups in Florida relating to tourism and recreation. The exhibit used text and images from the Folklife Program's fieldwork files. There was also a booklet that accompanied the exhibit (found in S 1606, box 2, folder 5). More images of the exhibit can be found in S 1606, box 2, folder 1.

Fifteen color slides (plus prints from the slides). A traveling exhibit concerning the occupational groups in Florida relating to tourism and recreation. The exhibit used text and images from the Folklife Program's fieldwork files. There was also a booklet that accompanied the exhibit (found in S 1606, box 1, folder 9). Description
Twenty-six color slides. Images of the exhibit in Secretary of State George Firestone's office about the Folk Arts Apprenticeship program. Contains images, descriptions, and examples of work made by master artists and their apprentices (e.g. saddles, paintings, and embroidery.) The Folk Arts Apprenticeship Program began in 1983 with a NEA grant of $22,000. The program provided an opportunity for master folk artists to share technical skills and cultural knowledge with apprentices in order to keep the tradition alive. Apprentices must have had some experience in the tradition and agreed to train for at least six months. The first project director was Blanton Owen, who was later replaced by folklorist Peter Roller. The program was continued each year through 2003.

Two color prints. Located in envelope #3. Barnes was the primary recorder of the folk festivals (see S 1876 for recordings) and the caretaker of the Stephen Foster Memorial. These images were originally part of a scrapbook kept by Florida Folk Festival director Thelma Boltin.

20 color slides. The Folk Arts Apprenticeship Program began in 1983 with a NEA grant of $22,000. The program provided an opportunity for master folk artists to share technical skills and cultural knowledge with apprentices in order to keep the tradition alive. Apprentices must have had some experience in the tradition and agreed to train for at least six months. The first project director was Blanton Owen, later replaced by folklorist Peter Roller, and then Robert Stone. The program was continued each year through 2004.

Four audio cassettes. The Florida Folk Arts Survey was conducted in 1987 by folklorists Tina Bucuvalis, Steve Frangos, Merri Belland, and Barbara Seitz as preliminary research for a joint folk arts project between the Florida Folklife Program and the Florida Museum of History. The field researchers focused on those areas previously overlooked by FFP staff. The research focused on identifying folk artists and locating appropriate exhibit objects.

Includes images of the entire process from gathering cypress tress and cutting the wood to constructing the furniture and finally having them on display at the Stephen Foster Center.
