- One reel to reel. The Osceolas discuss basket making - - including when and how they learned the craft; patterns and designs; the choice of colors and materials (usually pine needles and/or palmetto fronds); teaching the young; selling baskets; and the basketry process. The recordings were created for the Florida Folklife Program's Seminole Slide and Tape Project, a program sponsored by the American Express Company in 1982-1983 to create two educational slide/tape programs for use by schools, community groups, and other educational outlets. One program dealt with sweetgrass basket making; the other on traditional Seminole patchwork. Recordings of the finished program tapes can be found in S 1576, Box 10. Teacher guides, program scripts, and documentation of the project can be found in S 1595, Box 1.

Part of a National Endowment for the Arts funded folklife program, presented at various libraries across the state, using local talent. - Seven color slides. Images are dark. Bert was born approximately in 1925. She spoke little English. She made coiled sweetgrass baskets. Used newer grass, using cotton thread. She made basket bottoms out of palmetto fiber. The Florida Folk Arts Survey was conducted in 1987 by folklorists Tina Bucuvalis, Steve Fragos, Merri Belland, and Barbara Seitz as preliminary research for a joint folk art between the Florida Folklife Program and the Florida Museum of History. The field researchers focused on those areas previously overlooked by FFP staff. The research focused on identifying folk artists and locating appropriate exhibit objects.

- One color print. Jumper, of Hollywood Seminole Reservation, was the first female leader of the Seminole Tribal Council. She was also the first to receive a high school diploma, accomplished in Cherokee, North Carolina. She won the 1994 Florida Folk Heritage Award posthumously.

The Southwest Florida Folk Arts Project was conducted under the direction of Barbara Beauchamp in two phases: 12 November 1987 through 31 January 1988 by Debbie Fant; and in February 1988 by Nancy Nusz. Using a 35mm camera and a Sony tape recorder, and funded through a NEA grant, the two fieldworkers spoke with over fifty informants in Manatee, Sarasota, Lee, Collier, and Charlotte counties, resulting in 20 participants chosen for a special SW Florida folklife area at the 36th Annual Florida Folk Festival.

- Two color slides. A famed Seminole hunting guide and healer, Billy Bowlegs III lived to 102. He demonstrated Seminole culture at several of the early Florida Folk Festivals. Recordings of Bowlegs can be found in S 1576. - Two proof sheets with sixty-seven black and white images, plus negatives. Images of Diddley performing on the amphitheater, along with Remembranzas del Conuco, a Cuban guajiro decima group, and Seminole singer-guitarist James Billie. Diddley was one of earliest and most influential rock and roll performer sin the 1950s, creating a riff-driven sound that can be found in contemporaries such as Buddy Holly and Rolling Stones, as well as the harder rock bands of the 1970s and 1980s. Originally a classical violinist, Diddley turned to blues and rock, eventually signing with Chess records. He was known for his live performers and influence than for his hits. One of his trademarks was a square guitar. Though born in Mississippi, by 1995, he resided in Archer, Florida. At the time, singer-guitarist Billie was president of the Seminole Tribe of Florida. The Decima musical tradition was a 10-line improvised verse dating back to the 17th Century. Diddley's performance can be found in S 1576, box 44, tapes D95-29 and D95-30.
