One reel to reel.Songs by performers with Miami's Pro Teatro Cubano which present bufo theater productions (Cuban vaudeville/satirical comedies). Bufo theater was often performed in Havana before Fidel Castro came to power. Fecundo was the theater's composer, and a musician. For images Pro Teatro Cubano, see S1577, v. 43, S87-1015 - S87-1036. For an interview with Juan Landa, another performer, see S 1576, reel T86-141. The Dade Folk Arts Survey was conducted in 1986 by folklorists Tina Bucuvalas, Nancy Nusz and Laurie Sommers in order to identify folk arts and folk artists for the special folklife area at the 34th Annual Florida Folk Festival. The traditions are mainly Haitian, Jamaican, Mexican, Bahamian, Cuban and Jewish and cover a wide range of skills and art forms.

Two reel to reel tapes (Copied onto C86-58 and C86-59). Interview with vaudeville performer (singer/comedian/mimic) Milt Ross. He discusses his education in Jewish schools; his family background; being discovered in Miami at 15 by Al Jolson; travelling with Jolson; Yiddish theater; sources of material for his act; Miami night clubs; Martha Raye; cantorial work; George Jessel; and types of shows. The term vaudeville was an American word coined in the 1840s, and refers to a variety show comprised of a series of unconnected acts (singing, comedy, dancing, etc.). The Dade Folk Arts Survey was conducted in 1986 by folklorists Tina Bucuvalas, Nancy Nusz and Laurie Sommers in order to identify folk arts and folk artists for the special folklife area at the 34th Annual Florida Folk Festival. The traditions are mainly Haitian, Jamaican, Mexican, Bahamian, Cuban and Jewish and cover a wide range of skills and art forms.

One video cassette. 20 minutes. (Copy can be found on FV-5, S 1615.) Interview with Angelo Agelatos at WLVU Greek radio, Tarpon-Clearwater; discusses the importance of Greek radio to the Greek-American community. Created for the Every Island Has Its Own Song project. The finished product was a documentary about Nikitas Tsimouris, a Greek bagpipe player, and his family, and the Tarpon Springs Greek community he lived in. A co-production of WEDO-TV and the FFP, it was funded in part by the Florida Endowment for the Humanities. Offenbach narrated. Folklorist Michael researched, wrote and produced, and Yvonne Bryant was assistant producer.

Description
Eleven color slides. Juan (Bolito) Landa was an actor at Miami's Pro Teatro Cubano, which presents bufo theater productions (Cuban vaudeville/satirical comedies). Bufo theater was often performed in Havana before Fidel Castro came to power. The character Landa played was El Negrito, a trickster figure who worked for Gallego, a Spanish businessman.
