One video recording (VHS; 1:14:37) Footage of Hansen teaching folklore at an unidentified elementary school for a week. On the last day, blues pianist Alex McBride performed and discussed blues & gospel music. Includes footage of the students demonstrating games, sayings, and a show & tell of family folklife objects. The Folk Arts in Education Project in Duval County was a joint venture between the Duval County School System and the Florida Folklife Program. It was started in 1984 by folklorist David Taylor with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts to add to existing social studies curriculum. The project consisted of field research to identify local traditions and folk artists, a series of five two-day seminars to acquaint teachers with the use of folklore and folk arts, in-school programs conducted by a folklorist and traditionalist, which included visits by local folk artists. Taylor ran it until 1986. In 1988, Gregory Hansen re-initiated it with minor changes.

One video recording (VHS; 2 hours) Created by Chestine Epps Curry for the Suwannee County Historical County for Black History month. Includes a re-enactment of emancipation, interview with Charles Shelton author of book on the county and the son of Jessie Reddick Shelton, who was the county's oldest resident (she died at 105), the local NAACP, remarks by the Suwannee County school superintendent and other local leaders, students at Douglas High School, and the local sewing club. Included with the video are handwritten notes by folklorist Beth Higgs. Suwannee County.

Description
One video cassette (3/4" tape). Scenes of Big Cypress School, as well as Alligator Alley, Immokalee Reservation and raw footage of surrounding nature and wildlife. The Seminole Video Project was a joint project between the Florida Folklife Program and WFSU-TV. Completed in Spring 1984 and financed by a Florida Endowment for the Humanities grant with the support of the Seminole Tribe of Florida, the project culminated in a thirty-minute documentary entitled "Four Corners of the Earth" which profiled Ethel Santiago, a Seminole craftswoman and tribal representative. The program addressed such issues as cultural retention within contemporary society; the role of women in Seminole society; traditional Seminole foods, arts, and medicine; and the changing emphasis on clan affiliations. The project covered Seminoles on the Big Cypress and Hollywood Reservations and at Immokalee, Florida. Raw video footage, along with the finished product, can be found in S 1615, V84-16 through V-84-24. Sound recordings of the interviews can be found in S 1576, T84-111 - T84-133 and C84-108 - C84-115. Images can be found in S 1577, volume 23.

The program, aimed at the "at risk" students (K-5) had tow goals: 1. acquire knowledge of folk traditions (riddles, tales, etc.) 2. enhance the students self-esteem The program began with Jacksonville-based storyteller Smith, and followed by instruction by folklorists Shanafelt and Higgs. At the end, the folklorists assessed the success of the program.

It originated in China in the 6th century. Lefcourte was born in Osaka, Japan where she learned the art of the tea ceremony and flower arranging. She moved to Florida in 1975.
