Description
One reel to reel recording (13:30 minutes). Radio program about the 1965 Jeanie With the Light Brown Hair competition, featuring the winner Graham singing the Foster song. These radio programs were created in the early 1960s by the Stephen Foster Memorial to promote the park and its activities, as well as to educate the public about Stephen Foster and Florida folk music. One reel to reel recording. Starting in 1951, each February, the Stephen Foster Memorial and the Florida Federation of Music Clubs sponsored a competition aimed at young female vocalists. The winner was dubbed that year's "Jeanie With the Light Brown Hair." A ball was also held in association with the contest. Starting in 1954, winners were awarded musical scholarships, and a spot on the Florida Folk Festival program.

One proof sheet with eight black and white images (plus negatives). The dancers were: C. Wright, John Mealing, Charlie Vinson, Allen Jones, and Elder Brown. One image also features folklorist Beth Higgs. Gandy dancers were railroad workers who used call-and-response work songs to keep workers moving fast in laying track. Often called lining songs.

Three color slides; 24 negatives. The Folk Arts Apprenticeship Program began in 1983 with a NEA grant of $22,000. The program provided an opportunity for master folk artists to share technical skills and cultural knowledge with apprentices in order to keep the tradition alive. Apprentices must have had some experience in the tradition and agreed to train for at least six months. The first project director was Blanton Owen, later replaced by folklorist Peter Roller. The program was continued each year through 2003.

Description
Twenty color slides. Held in the Capitol rotunda, the Florida Folk Heritage Awards were given to McClain, Edward Flemming, and Morgan. The ceremony also included dancing and music. Based on recommendations from the Florida Folklife Council, the Secretary of State confers Florida Folk Heritage Awards annually. The awards are given to outstanding folk artists and folk culture advocates who have made long-standing contributions to the folk cultural resources of the state. Established in 1985, the program parallels the National Heritage Fellowships.
