- Two DAT tapes. This was the third visit by folklorist Stone; recorded at Groth's residence. Consists of a rehearsal (tape 14) and an interview with Groth (tape 14 and 15). The Folk Arts Apprenticeship Program began in 1983 with a NEA grant of $22,000. The program provided an opportunity for master folk artists to share technical skills and cultural knowledge with apprentices in order to keep the tradition alive. Apprentices must have had some experience in the tradition and agreed to train for at least six months. The first project director was Blanton Owen, later replaced by folklorist Peter Roller. The program was continued each year through 2004.

- Sixty-six black and white images. the Bill Monroe performing at the Florida Folk Festival. Monroe, a mandolin player, was known as the creator of bluegrass style of music. Performing here with his band, the Bluegrass Boys (from which the musical genre's name is derived) Monroe was often referred to as the Father of Bluegrass. - Seven reel-to-reel audiotapes. Recording of a conversation and impromptu performance by Brown and Williams. This was the first time these men had met. They discuss gospel, country, rock and roll, and blues music; women; segregation; other folk festivals; various jobs they worked; and performing. They perform several songs. The audio quality varies from poor to fair throughout. Copied onto audiocassettes C81-12, C81-13 and C81-14.

- One audio cassette. Recording of a performance of an informal country, gospel, and bluegrass group in a home. Musicians included: Willa Mae Clemmons (guitar), Cecil Griffey (guitar), and Lovelace Glisson (banjo). For images, see S 1577, v. 27, slides 1938-1954. In winter 1985, the Bureau contracted with two folklorists to conduct a folk arts survey of the St. Johns River basin in northeastern Florida. The St. Johns River is the largest and most used river in Florida, supporting much river commerce as well as a modest amount of commercial fishing. Folklorists Mary Anne McDonald and Kathleen Figgen conducted the survey from January through March 1985 under the direction of Folklife Coordinator Blanton Owen and Bureau Chief Ormond Loomis. Documentation compiled in the survey was used to prepare and present the 'St. Johns River Basin Folklife Area' at the 1985 Florida Folk Festival.
