Description: One video recording (3/4" tape; 22 minutes) Unedited footage of the 1991 Florida Folk Festival. Starts with a festival visitor having her hair weaved ("corn rows") at an African American hair styles demonstration tent. Most of the tape consists of the Florida State Fiddlers Competition, which was hosted by state folklorist Bob Stone. Neither the performers nor the songs performed were identified. The competition continues on video FV-64. For the audio of the entire competition, see tapes D91-9 through D91-12, in S 1576.

Catherine Sugrue presented Florida Folk Heritage Awards to Gaskins, Hunter, Kennedy, and Morris (accepted by Kenneth & Chet Morris). The Florida Folk Heritage Awards were given to significant tradition bearers and advocates. Recipients are chosen by the Florida Folklife Council, and given out by the Secretary of State's office.

Description: One reel to reel recording. Starting in 1952, the Stephen Foster Memorial and the Florida Federation of Music Clubs sponsored a competition aimed at young female vocalists. The winner was dubbed that year's "Jeanie With the Light Brown Hair." A ball was also held in association with the contest. Starting in 1954, winners were awarded musical scholarships, and a spot on the Florida Folk Festival program.

Description: Seven audio cassettes. Recording of the annual Florida Fiddlers Contest. In the solo awards, the placements were Fred Stoll (fourth), David Forbes (third), Elan Chalford (second), and Willie Jones(first). For the Accompanied category, the placements were Willie Jones (fourth), Clare Davis (third), Tom Staley (second) and Wayne Martin (first). Etheridge, Barasch, and Rtuland were the judges; and Kelly was a guest performer.

Florida Memory is a digital outreach program providing free online access to select archival records from collections housed in the State Library and Archives of Florida. Florida Memory digitizes materials that illuminate the state's history and culture.

Florida Memory is funded under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Florida's LSTA program is administered by the Department of State's Division of Library and Information Services.

For FY2022-23, the percentage of total costs for the Florida Memory program financed with federal money is 66%; the federal dollar amount to be spent on the program is $646,422. This program does not receive any non-governmental funding.
