- Thirty color slides. A botanica was a place where believers in Santeria could buy herbs and other supplies. Santeria is a New World version of the Yoruba religion. Catholic items such as crucifixes and statues of saints were also for sale. Slides S80-177, S80-180, S80-185, S80-189, and S80-191 are missing.

- Four color prints. The Florida Folk Arts Survey was conducted in 1987 by folklorists Tina Bucuvalis, Steve Fragos, Merri Belland, and Barbara Seitz as preliminary research for a joint folk art between the Florida Folklife Program and the Florida Museum of History. The field researchers focused on those areas previously overlooked by FFP staff. The research focused on identifying folk artists and locating appropriate exhibit objects.

- Thirty-four color slides. Images of Odzak icon paintings (religious paintings within the Greek Orthodox Church used to represent the church's beliefs), and of Odzak. Includes several images of her icon paintings in a Greek Orthodox church. For an interview with Odzak, see S 1618, box 4, tape 4. The Folk Arts in Education Project in Duval County was a joint venture between the Duval County School System and the Florida Folklife Program. It was started in 1984 by folklorist David Taylor with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts to add to existing social studies curriculum. The project consisted of field research to identify local traditions and folk artists, a series of five two-day seminars to acquaint teachers with the use of folklore and folk arts, and in-school programs conducted by a folklorist and traditionalist which included visits by local folk artists. Taylor ran it until 1986. In 1988, Gregory Hansen re-initiated it with minor changes.

- One proof seet with 20 black and white images (plus negatives). Orta was a santeros (someone who carves Catholic saints)from Ponce, Puerto Rico. The entire family carves and pants the statues. Also an instrument maker, he came to the united State in 1979.

- Four color slides. Images of Greek bagpipe player Nikitas Tsimouris' house, with the I and X symbols over the front door, painted in sheep's blood. The Folk Arts Apprenticeship Program began in 1983 with a NEA grant of $22,000. The program provided an opportunity for master folk artists to share technical skills and cultural knowledge with apprentices in order to keep the tradition alive. Apprentices must have had some experience in the tradition and agreed to train for at least six months. The first project director was Blanton Owen, later replaced by folklorist Peter Roller. The program was continued each year through 2003.

- Twenty-seven color slides. Images of a Ukrainian Christmas celebration, including dining, music and singing, traditional decorations, and the lighting of the candles. The Folk Arts in Education Project in Palm Beach County was a joint venture between the Palm Beach County School System and the Florida Folklife Program. It was conducted between 1986 and 1987 by folklorist Jan Rosenberg with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts to add to existing social studies curriculum. The goal was to impart an appreciation of multi-ethnic traditions and provide a sense of place to the mobile student population. The project focused on the Florida Studies component for fourth grade students. The project consisted of field research to identify local traditions and folk artists, a series of five two-day seminars to acquaint teachers with the use of folklore and folk arts, in-school programs conducted by a folklorist and traditionalist, which included visits by local folk artists. In total, the project involved 15 schools with 779 students.
