Six video recordings. (Beta; 20 minutes each) Early edit tapes for the documentary "Every Island Has Its Own Song," a Florida Folklife Program-produced documentary on tsabouna (Greek bagpipe) maker-player Nikitas Tsimouris and the Greek community of Tarpon Springs. Includes interviews with Tsimouris and his family, performance on the tsabouna, local sponge boats, an Epiphany Day celebration, and the Tsimoruis family at home. The tapes have gaps for narration, insert shots, and other post-production elements. For the completed documentary, see FV-112. For the original fieldwork videos, see FV-1 through FV-17 in S 1615.

Twenty-one color slides. Images of a mass and rosary in honor of the Virgen of Fatima in the trailer home of the Jose Albarran family. Presided over by Father Jose Narvaez, food and drinks were served to those that came. Images include the service, the food, attendees, and a small statue of the virgin. In winter 1985, the Bureau contracted with two folklorists to conduct a folk arts survey of the St. Johns River basin in northeastern Florida. The St. Johns River is the largest and most used river in Florida, supporting much river commerce as well as a modest amount of commercial fishing. Folklorists Mary Anne McDonald and Kathleen Figgen conducted the survey from January through March 1985 under the direction of Folklife Coordinator Blanton Owen and Bureau Chief Ormond Loomis. Documentation compiled in the survey was used to prepare and present the "St. Johns River Basin Folklife Area" at the 1985 Florida Folk Festival.

Four color slides. Images of Greek bagpipe player Nikitas Tsimouris' house, with the I and X symbols over the front door, painted in sheep's blood. The Folk Arts Apprenticeship Program began in 1983 with a NEA grant of $22,000. The program provided an opportunity for master folk artists to share technical skills and cultural knowledge with apprentices in order to keep the tradition alive. Apprentices must have had some experience in the tradition and agreed to train for at least six months. The first project director was Blanton Owen, later replaced by folklorist Peter Roller. The program was continued each year through 2003.

Description
Two audio cassettes. The Epiphany of Our Lord is a Christian rite celebrated within the Eastern Orthodox faith. Epiphany is a Greek word meaning to make known, and refers to the visit of the Magi to Christ,thereby making him known to the world. It is the climax of the twelve days of Christmas. Tarpon Springs boasts a large Greek American community. Images of the celebration can be found in S 1664, box 2, folder 1.

The service was held in a Methodist Church that the Mexican American fern farmers used for Catholic services. For images, see S 1577, v. 27, slides 1742-1758. Twenty-two color slides. Palm Sunday is the traditional date for Christians to celebrate Jesus's entrance into Jerusalem. Ceremony held at the Cathedral Basilica, the nation's oldest parish (dating back to 1565). The present cathedral was built in 1797 out of native coquina stone. Henry Flagler later donated the cathedral's steeple.

The image of the Virgen de Gaudalupe was made on December 12, 1982 because the Castillos did not have their church available to hold the Virgin's feast. In winter 1985, the Bureau joined with two folklorists to conduct a folk arts survey of the St. Johns River basin in northeastern Florida. The St. Johns River is the largest and most used river in Florida, supporting a great amount of river commerce and a modest amount of commercial fishing.
