One audio cassette. Keith and Tanenbaum played Scottish bagpipes. The Folk Arts Apprenticeship Program began in 1983 with a NEA grant of $22,000. The program provided an opportunity for master folk artists to share technical skills and cultural knowledge with apprentices in order to keep the tradition alive. Apprentices must have had some experience in the tradition and agreed to train for at least six months. The first project director was Blanton Owen, later replaced by folklorist Peter Roller. The program was continued each year through 2003.

One eight-track cassette. Used for an exhibit, contains Skordilis on bouzouki and Keith on the bagpipe. The Folk Arts Apprenticeship Program began in 1983 with a NEA grant of $22,000. Description
One audio cassette. Tarpon Springs resident Tsimouris performing four songs at the Florida Folk Festival. He plays the Tsabauna, a Greek musical instrument made out of sheep skin, and is sometimes called a Greek shepherd's bag pipe. His son explains for the audience the instrument and the songs. He also explains that Tsimouris first moved from Greece to Tarpon Springs in 1968. This recording is duplicated in reel T86-124, S 1576.

Three reel to reels. The Beers Family began the Fox Hollow Folk Festival in 1966, which was held annually in Petersburgh, New York until 1980. Both Boltin and Ritchie played the first year -- and these undated recordings might be from that year. In 1972, Bob Beers died in a car accident in Vermont. NOTE: commercial recordings by Win Stracke and other unidentified performers have been redacted due to copyright restrictions.

One reel to reel recording. NOTE: Due to technical problems with the original reels the recording quality of the 1971 Florida Folk Festival is exceptionally poor. The first half of T77-225 is from the Friday evening program, not listed here -- see separate entry for description. Boltin served as emcee. Pavitt lived in Juneau, Alaska. The Sons of Scotland were a bagpipe group from Jacksonville. Jumper sang gospel songs in Mikasuki. Ed Flemming was a professor at St. Leo College; Sheila was his daughter.

One reel to reel recording. Boltin served as emcee. The first half of the reel consisted of Friday night performances (see other description in database for details). Hamilton was a Florida Times Union reporter who played the bagpipes. Order of the Arrow was the name for Boy Scout Troop #4, based in Tampa. They performed "Indian" dances. Dekle was from Jacksonville.
