- Fifteen color slides. Baker with his sculptures and paintings. Several images of Baker's paintings are included. Baker, whose first painting was a copy of a church hand fan for which he was paid five dollars when he was a child, studied art at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. He worked for years as a professional sign painter in Lake City, but also created emotionally charged and religiously influenced paintings and sculptures on the side. Folklorist Blanton Owen has described his work as 'blues on canvas'. Baker died in 2002. For an interview with Baker, see S 1576, box 11, C84-2

The Florida Folk Arts Survey was conducted in 1987 by folklorists Tina Bucuvalis, Steve Fragos, Merri Belland, and Barbara Seitz as preliminary research for a joint folk art project between the Florida Folklife Program and the Florida Museum of History. The field researchers focused on areas previously overlooked by FFP staff. The research focused on identifying folk artists and locating appropriate exhibit objects.

- Nine color slides. Born in Taiwan, Chang constructed small sculptures from rice dough. For an interview with Chang, see S 1618, box 5, tape 1. The Folk Arts in Education Project in Duval County was a joint venture between the Duval County School System and the Florida Folklife Program. It was started in 1984 by folklorist David Taylor with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts to add to existing social studies curriculum. The project consisted of field research to identify local traditions and folk artists, a series of five two-day seminars to acquaint teachers with the use of folklore and folk arts, and in-school programs conducted by a folklorist and traditionalist, which included visits by local folk artists. Taylor ran it until 1986. In 1988, Gregory Hansen re-initiated it with minor changes.

- Seven photographic prints. Image of Fred Beaver in traditional Oklahoma Creek dress posing for photographs at the Florida Folk Festival. Beaver was a well-known painter whose ancestors were related to the Florida Seminoles. Also visible in one the images is Florida photographer Robert Leahey. Beaver often spoke at the festivals, where he also usually displayed his paintings. Included with the photographs are several pieces of correspondence between Beaver and the Festival directors.

- One color slide, 20 black and white negatives. The Folk Arts Apprenticeship Program began in 1983 with a NEA grant of $22,000. The program provided an opportunity for master folk artists to share technical skills and cultural knowledge with apprentices in order to keep the tradition alive. Apprentices must have had some experience in the tradition and agreed to train for at least six months. The first project director was Blanton Owen, later replaced by folklorist Peter Roller. The program was continued each year through 2003.

- Twenty-five color slides. Pysanky (East European egg decration)is created when patterns are drawn on eggs with wax, which then protects the covered areas from the dye that is applied. By repeating this process with different colors of dye, a multi-colored pattern is built up.
