Description
Two audio cassettes. Bowers, an alligator wrestler at Native Village near Hollywood Reservation, was born in Fort Lauderdale in 1955. In the interview, he discusses growing up in a rural family and learning to alligator wrestle after a 4-H agent suggested he try it. He learned the practice from Johnny Buck, an old alligator wrestler. He explains how he received his first job from Chairman Billie and says never had any serious injuries. In addition, he discusses the relationship that grew between the Seminoles and alligators; how the Seminoles view alligator wrestling; how the capture the alligators; codes and regulations; the biggest alligator he wrestled (one that was 10 feet long); alligators' differing personalities and their aggressiveness; praying to thank the alligator after a wrestling match; wrestling techniques and other issues.

One audio cassette. Harris discusses growing up in Baldwin, and the effects turpentining and railroads have had there; local culture; hunting; dog training; and glass work. The Folk Arts in Education Project in Duval County was a joint venture between the Duval County School System and the Florida Folklife Program. It was started in 1984 by folklorist David Taylor with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts to add to existing social studies curriculum. The project consisted of field research to identify local traditions and folk artists, a series of five two-day seminars to acquaint teachers with the use of folklore and folk arts, and in-school programs conducted by a folklorist and traditionalist which included visits by local folk artists. Taylor ran it until 1986. In 1988, Gregory Hansen re-initiated it with minor changes.

Description
One audio cassette. Duvall, who owned Percheron horse (improted from France), was trained by Amish farmers in Ohio (who also use Percheron horses) on traditional horse training and farmwork techniques. In the interview, Duvall discusses the horses (traits, uses of, and qualities), harnessing techniques, training, driving, and wagons. The interview was created as fieldwork for the 1993 Rural Folklfie Days, in which Duvall participated as a demonstrator.

The Myakka Community Profile Project was conducted between October 1983 and March 1984 through a partnership with the Crowley Museum and Nature Center, and the Florida Folklife Program, funded by the Florida Endowment for the Humanities. The fieldwork and resultant booklet/slideshow, created by museum employee Robert Cottrell and folklorist Pat Waterman, was to profile the lifestyles and values of the Myakka community, located in Southwest Florida in Manatee County. One audio cassette. Side 1: Interview of Nancy Morgan: Morgan discusses both making hog's headcheese and her life's history. She talks about how long she had been making the head cheese, butchering hogs, the parts she uses, how she boils the head, dressing the hog, and special recipes like liver pudding, chitlins and cracklins, pig's feet, and beef tripe, etc. She also describes growing up in Fargo, Georgia, related weather and insects, her family's ethnic heritage, and talks about how her father taught her old songs and performed at various venues. She sings "Little Orphan Girl" and "Wake Up Jacob" without instrumentals. Side 2: Interview of Ray Morgan, with Nancy Morgan: [Difficult to hear-voices indistinct.] Ray Morgan talks about how he and Nancy met and on making and playing gourd fiddles. Plays the gourd and regular fiddle.

Two audio cassettes. Fussell, a rancher, was born three miles north of Polk City in a log cabin. In the interview, he discusses his family's background in ranching and hunting; people in his community working doing roadwork for one week a year in order to pay their taxes; raising cattle and hogs; no fence laws; branding and ear marks; the introduction of new types of cattle; differences in dress between "cowboys" from the west and those in Florida; tools used in Florida ranching; cattle dogs and horses; selling and marketing cattle; and transporting cattle to market. In addition, he also talks about the foods they ate while traveling such as smoked bacon and sweet potatoes; ways in which they entertained themselves including music, frolics, and square dancing; and his views on hunting and conservation.
