Three video recordings (VHS). FV-20: Includes Athenian Dancers, Marie Buggs, and Korean dancers. FV-21: Includes Korean dancers, interviews with participants, and Arabic singer Fahed Iwais. The Folk Arts in Education Project in Duval County was a joint venture between the Duval County School System and the Florida Folklife Program. It was started in 1984 by folklorist David Taylor with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts to add to existing social studies curriculum. The project consisted of field research to identify local traditions and folk artists, a series of five two-day seminars to acquaint teachers with the use of folklore and folk arts, in-school programs conducted by a folklorist and traditionalist, which included visits by local folk artists. Taylor ran it until 1986. In 1988, Gregory Hansen re-initiated it with minor changes.

Recorded at the Jacksonville Museum of Science and History. Funded by the Florida Endowment of the humanities, the seminar series featured presentations by Bureau of Florida Folklife Programs staff and area specialists discussing the study of folk culture; folk traditions in Florida; women's occupational culture and lore; and the folk culture and lore of Hispanic, Jewish, and African-American women, including customs, beliefs, family and social relations, folk tales and jokes, and musical traditions and styles.

A conference co-sponsored by the Florida Folklife Program and the Jacksonville Museum of Science and History that dealt with collecting and researching folklife and folklore. Speakers and topics included; What is folklore (Yerkovich/Loomis/Waterman); Reasons for collecting (Kennedy); Folklore (Bulger); archaeology (FSU professor Marrinnan); oral history (Waterman); ethnomusicology (Olsen); cultural geography (Lamme); Ethics in collecting (Kennedy/Foreman/Waterman/Olsen/Bulger); WPA collecting (Kennedy); education and folklore in schools (Nusz); Zora Neale Hurston (Reaver); Keynote speech on folklife collecting (Ives of Maine); technological issues (Walker/Young); and videotaping folklife (Larsen). In addition,. Marie Buggs, Judge Corbin, and Thelma sing and tell stories.
