Description
Two audio casettes. Symonette, the son of pioneer Palm Beach fisher Winifred Symonette, was born in Rivera Beach, and fished until 1966. By the time of the interview, he was a carpenter. He discusses learning fishing from his father at 6; the fishing industry in the 1930s through 1960s; boating; seasonal fishing; types of fishes caught; gill netting; regulations; tackle involved; and moving to carpentry in the 1960s.

Two audio cassettes. Demonstrating the Japanese tea ceremony and the associated ikebana rituals. Ikebana (Way of the Flower) is the Japanese tradition of flower arranging. It originated in China in the 6th century. Lefcourte was born in Osaka, Japan where she learned the art of the tea ceremony and flower arranging. She moved to Florida in 1975.

Lefcourte discusses learning the Japanese tea ceremony in Japan from her father; emigrating to the United States; the cultural meanings of ikebana and the tea ceremony; naming practices; effects of World War II on her family; clothing and rituals for the tea ceremony; and teaching it to others. Description
One audio cassette. The autoharp, a patented name, is also called a chorded zither. A lifelong musician, Dillon did not begin to play the autoharp until 1982 -- on a bet. He usually played songs made famous by Maybelle Carter. In the interview, he discusses growing up in West Virginia; learning to play the guitar at 12; performing as a professional country musician in the 1930s; playing for a Boston radio station (WCOP); learning the chorded zither/autoharp in 1982; learning songs; and performing. He also played four songs.

Sanchez oversees cane burning and cutting, as well as recruiting workers for a local sugar grower. His father was rancher in Cuba, who left as political exiles in the 1960s. In the interview, he discusses recruiting cane cutters in Jamaica; training workers; pay schemes; labor camps (set-up, conditions); field burning; types of workers: head pushers, ticket writers, camp supt., demonstrators; unions in Jamaica; and working conditions.
