One audio cassette tape. Tozzer served as emcee. Joel Fox, Cantor (of Jacksonville, FL), discusses Jewish sacred music, the "Festival of Wheats" and a cantor's responsibilities. He describes how he became a cantor, studying in Israel for three years. He also discusses languages and music. He cants the 23rd Psalm, which is used at funerals. He talks about his favorite pieces, bringing back traditional music and children's songs. A cantor (Latin for "singer") is often called a hazzan in the Jewish church. This person leads the synagogue in singing. Fox was from Dallas, Texas. As a teen, his family moved to Israel. While there, Fox attended the Rubin Academy of Art and Israel Institute of Cantorial Art. From 1989 to 1992, he served in the Israel Defense Force, then moved North Florida, where he became the Jacksonville Jewish Center's cantor.

This person leads the synagogue in singing. Fox was from Dallas, Texas. As a teen, his family moved to Israel. While there, Fox attended the Rubin Academy of Art and Israel Institute of Cantorial Art. From 1989 to 1992, he served in the Israel Defense Force, then moved North Florida, where he became the Jacksonville Jewish Center's cantor. He later was the cantor for Atlanta's Ahavath Achim Synagogue. Maude Scott (from Jacksonville, FL), herbalist talks about herbs, healing, nutrition and health. Specifically she discusses bayberry myrtle, Spanish moss, garlic, horseradish, fig leaves, rabbit tobacco, and life everlasting. Continues on C96-129.

One audio cassette recordings. Side A: Catalina Delgado, a trunk and Mexican paper artist and Eileen Brautman, a Jewish paper artist are interviewed by Laurie Sommers. Delgado discusses paper-cutting techniques and how designs are made. Brautman explains traditional and contemporary calligraphy and paper cutting according to the European tradition. She tells of making stories from the Bible, use of animals and other designs and the making of a Ketubah (Jewish marriage contract). Side B: Sonny Treadway (Deerfield Beach, FL), sacred steel guitarist is interviewed by Laurie Sommers. He discusses sacred steel guitar and gospel music as well as his musical influences such as his father, other family members and church musicians. He plays by ear and has written several original songs.

Description
One reel to reel. (Duplicated on T77-267B) A self-made recording by Eskin; sent to Thelma Boltin, then director of the Florida Folk Festival. Eskin, born to Russian-Jewish parents in Washington, D.C. in 1898, was a self-educated folklorist who collected and published songs from across the world. During the 1940s and 1950s, Eskin embarked on several recording trips in the United States and elsewhere. In 1951, he produced an album with Folkways Records entitled: Sea Shanties and Logger's Songs. Today, his collection of recordings, transcripted songs, and original compositions is housed with the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.
