Two reel to reel recordings. Hicks was a singer-songwriter form Tampa. Here, he was playing with Don Grooms and his band (Martin - fiddle; Nettles-guitar; Edwards -- bass). For a video of this performance, see FV-67 in S 1615. And videos FV-68 & FV-70 contain an impromptu acoustic performance they played directly after the concert in front of the stage that was not recorded on reel to reels.

Description
Two black and white prints. Images of singer-songwriter Grooms with Will McLean on harmonica and Tim DeMas on upright bass. Grooms, born in Waynesville, North Caroline to a Applachian/Cherokee family, was an associate professor of telecommunications at the University of Florida (1962-1993). He was also news director for WUFT-TV. He was better known, however, for his songwriting and folk festival performances. A part of the Florida Folk scene of the 1960s and 1970s, he regularly performed with McLean, Gamble Rogers, Paul Champion, and Jim Ballew. He died 30 January 1998.
