"Judge" Carswell; Council Members absent: James Billie, Alan Jabbour, Lillian Saunders, Miguel Gonzalez-Pando; Florida Folklife Program Staff: Phillip A. Werndli (Director), Charles McNeil (Archive Assistant), Visitors: Rosalyn Dodson (Executive Director of the Galvez Commission), Ron Levitt (Assistant Secretary of State), Lee Warner (Historic Preservation Boards Coordinator). The Florida Folklife Council (FFC) was created by legislation in 1979 (79-322, SB 1203) within the Department of State to advise the Secretary of State on issues relating to folk arts and folk life as well as stimulate and encourage statewide public interest and participation in folk arts and folklore, sponsor conferences and workshops throughout the state, and make recommendations for the development of a statewide Florida Folk Arts program. The Florida Folklife Council consists of seven members appointed by the Secretary of State for four-year terms.

Description
Eight reel to reels. Since the early 1970s, the Great Gulf Coast Arts Festival has been held each year in early November. (Only in 2004, with the damage caused by Hurricane Ivan, was the festival cancelled.) In 1980, the Florida Folklife Program offered a demonstration of the results of their West Florida Folklife Survey. Included were the Vietnamese Dancers of Pensacola (to pre-recorded music), Ida Goodson performing on the piano, Thomley and Godwin perform during a cake walk, and Creek dancers.
