A Will McLean Tribute at the 1991 Florida Folk Festival

Description: Thirty-eight color slides. A musical tribute to folk singer Will McLean. Singer-songwriter Will McLean was often called the 'Father of Florida Folk.' The Black Hat Troubadour, a nickname given for the hat he usually wore, authored over 3500 songs, and was a national figure on the folk music scene. A fifth generation Floridian, he died in 1990 from cancer. Audio recordings of the tribute can be found in S 1576, reels T91-52 and T91-53. A video of the tribute can be found in S 1615, video FV-58.

Description: Fourteen black and white negatives. Held inside the Stephen Foster Center (instead of the amphitheater) with quilts hanging behind the performers. The Sunday Folk Music in the Park concert series were held between September and February each year from 1991 through 1993 in the amphitheater at the Stephen Foster State Folk Culture Center (Stephen Foster Center). Each concert showcased a different mucial style: gospel, bluegrass, Florida folk, and Irish music among others. The series was arranged and promoted by the Florida Folklife Program.

Florida Memory is a digital outreach program providing free online access to select archival records from collections housed in the State Library and Archives of Florida. Florida Memory digitizes materials that illuminate the state's history and culture.

Florida Memory is funded under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Florida's LSTA program is administered by the Department of State's Division of Library and Information Services.

For FY2022-23, the percentage of total costs for the Florida Memory program financed with federal money is 66%; the federal dollar amount to be spent on the program is $646,422. This program does not receive any non-governmental funding.
