Description
Five proofs with 132 black and white images (plus negatives). This was the first year the award was given out. Held at the Florida State Capitol, Secretary of State George Firestone handed awards out to Boltin, Clark, Billie, Saunders, and Frog Smith. Florida Folklife Program folklorists Bulger and Taylor were also on hand. Other folk artists also were there performing, such as Greek bagpiper Tsimouris.

Description
One contact sheet with thirty-three black and white images. Images are of folklorists Taylor and Loomis measuring a fishing boat built by Segree in his yard. More images may be found in S 1577, v. 45. Between 1986 and 1987, a partnership between the Florida Folklife Program and the American Folk Center created the Maritime Heritage Survey Project. Focusing on the Gulf and Atlantic fishing cultures, and utilizing photographs, slides, oral histories, and on-site interviews, the survey climaxed with a demonstration area at the 1987 Florida Folk Festival. The three main researchers were Nancy Nusz, Merri Belland, and project director David Taylor. Additional information on the project may be found in Taylor's project files in S 1716.

Description
One reel to reel recording. Changes and Continuity in Commercial Fishing workshop: Folklorist Taylor interviewed the fishers about types of commerical fishing (crabbing, mullet, shark, and trout fishing), and changes in the ecology and the industry over time. Noles was from Crescent City, and Corbin was from Steinhatchee. The folklife area in 1987 focused on Maritime folklife, which stemmed from Taylor's work on the 1986 Maritime Heritage Project, and cooperative project between the FFP and the Library of Congress.

Raw footage for the documentary, Fishing All My Days, on Fernandina's shrimping industry, produced by the Florida Folklife Program and WUFT-TV 5 of Gainesville (the local PBS station, affiliated with the University of Florida.)

Filman was from Steinhatchee, Herrin was from Mayport, and Bennett was from Welaka. Net making workshop: Folklorist Taylor interviewed the net makers (Smith, Buzier, Mora) about their occupation and training, and how to make nets. Mora was from Cortez, Smith from Port St. Joe, and Buzier was from Apalachicola. The folklife area in 1987 focused on Maritime folklife, which stemmed from Taylor's work on the 1986 Maritime Heritage Project, and cooperative project between the FFP and the Library of Congress.

Four audio cassettes. Meeting between project participants and the project's advisory committee to review and revise the project's publication: Documenting Maritime Folklife: An Introductory Guide. In addition to a discussion of the Florida Maritime Project, the recordings provide insight into disciplinary debates over the validity of folklife. Includes discussion of amateur versus professional folklorists/researchers, the use of oral history, the project's aims and goals, the philosophy and politics behind folklife, and the conflicts between history, anthropology, and folklife. Participants include maritime historian, Fleetwood, historians Hickerson and Morris, archaeologist Miller, anthropologists Parades, Wickman, and Stewart, biologist Scott, folklorists Gilmore, Johnson, Taylor, Michael, and Loomis.
