Description
Two color slides. Pla with a designed dress and Santeria headpiece (ochun). Santeria is a Cuban version of the Yoruba religion. The Dade Folk Arts Survey was conducted in 1985 and 1986 by folklorists Tina Bucuvalas, Nancy Nusz and Laurie Sommers in order to identify folk arts and folk artists for the special folklife area at the 34th Annual Florida Folk Festival. The traditions are mainly Haitian, Jamaican, Mexican, Bahamian, Cuban and Jewish and cover a wide range of skills and art forms.

One reel to reel recording. (Copied onto C86-81.) Friedland served as emcee. Pichardo and Pla discuss Cuban Santeria religion. Grupo Canaveral's performance continued on T86-39 and T86-40. The folklife area in 1986 focused on Miami-Dade, which stemmed from fieldwork work on the 1986 Miami-Dade Folklife Survey, conducted by Lauri Sommers, Tina Bucuvalas, and Nancy Nusz.
