These were copies of the master tapes (see T80-123 and T8-124) for the Florida Folklife Program album, Drop on Down in Florida, a double album comprised of field recordings from the North Florida Folklife Project and those made specifically for this album. The album featured African American musical traditions throughout Florida. For more selections by these artists, see the original field recordings.

Interview with and music performance by blues guitarist Emmett Murray

Date: 1980-04-08
Description: Three reel to reel recordings. Murray was born in 1911 in Moultrie, Goergia. He moved to Florida in the 1930s to work the cane fields, but soon moved to other agricultural jobs. He often played songs learned from records in local white clubs and at parties during the 1930s and 1940s. In 1980, he still performed at local social functions. These are field recordings from the Florida Record Project. That project, along with work for the North Florida Project, resulted in the two-album recording, Drop On Down in Florida.

Florida Memory is a digital outreach program providing free online access to select archival records from collections housed in the State Library and Archives of Florida. Florida Memory digitizes materials that illuminate the state's history and culture.

Florida Memory is funded under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Florida's LSTA program is administered by the Department of State's Division of Library and Information Services.

For FY2022-23, the percentage of total costs for the Florida Memory program financed with federal money is 66%; the federal dollar amount to be spent on the program is $646,422. This program does not receive any non-governmental funding.
