Description: One audio cassette. McQueen, also known as Red Tam, was leader of the Jacksonville-based Red Tam Blues Band. His father, also called Red Tam, was a popular local blues player (he died two years before this interview.) McQueen discusses his birth in Miami and living in various Florida towns; his father's music; electric blues; learning the blues from his father; playing with various blues artists such as BB King, Freddie King, and Clarence Carter; various blues styles; forming and playing with his band; Jacksonville blues clubs; getting work; touring; bass and drums in blues; training new musicians; guitar styles; and special techniques in blues guitar playing.

Also includes two songs by Red Tam Sr. recorded from a 45 rpm record. The band consisted of Red Tam (aka Tony McQueen; lead guitar, leader); Mike Gallen (keyboard); Kenny Holt (bass); and Kenny Johnson (drums). Use of Red Tam's songs is only for non-commerical purposes without written permission by Tony McQueen (Red Tam). For an interview with Red Tam (McQueen), see S 1618, Box 4, tape 10. The Folk Arts in Education Project in Duval County was a joint venture between the Duval County School System and the Florida Folklife Program. It was started in 1984 by folklorist David Taylor with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts to add to existing social studies curriculum. Florida Memory is a digital outreach program providing free online access to select archival records from collections housed in the State Library and Archives of Florida. Florida Memory digitizes materials that illuminate the state's history and culture.

Florida Memory is funded under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Florida's LSTA program is administered by the Department of State's Division of Library and Information Services.

For FY2022-23, the percentage of total costs for the Florida Memory program financed with federal money is 66%; the federal dollar amount to be spent on the program is $646,422. This program does not receive any non-governmental funding.
