Kingston Trio Concert

Two reel to reels. Recording of a concert at the Stephen Foster Center, sponsored by the Florida Folklife Program, by the then recently-reformed reformed Kingston Trio. The group consisted of Bob Shane, George Grove, and Roger Gambill. The group was formed in 1956 in Palo Alto, California by Shane, Nick Reynolds (1933-), and Dave Guard (1934-1991). With their hit, Tom Dooley, the group single-handedly led the folk revival of the late 1950s and early 1960s, paving the way for performers such as Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Peter, Paul, and Mary, and the return of black-listed Pete Seeger. They disbanded in 1967, but Shane reformed the group in the 1970s. The rest of the band at the 1977 concert consisted of Tom Green (drums), Ben Schubert (fiddle/mandolin), and Stan Case (bass fiddle).
