Description
Two reel to reel tapes. (Copied onto C86-137/138.) Interview with the traditional Jewish musician, recorded at a local shopping mall. Bronsztein discusses learning music; playing in Latin America and Israel; various Jewish musical bands; playing the clarinet; klezmer music; Jewish songs; playing for Jewish ceremonies; and life in Miami. The Dade Folk Arts Survey was conducted in 1986 by folklorists Tina Bucuvalas, Nancy Nusz and Laurie Sommers in order to identify folk arts and folk artists for the special folklife area at the 34th Annual Florida Folk Festival. The traditions are mainly Haitian, Jamaican, Mexican, Bahamian, Cuban and Jewish and cover a wide range of skills and art forms.

In 1987, the name of the festival was changed to the Traditions Festival. Stock and Sommers served as emcees. Mariachi Jalisco consisted of: Francisco Rodriguez, guitar; Gabriel Mateo, trumpet; José Areano, guitarón; Hector Varel, trumpet; Pablo Martinez, vihuela. The Billy Rolle Jazz Band consisted of: Billy Rolle, alto and tenor sax; Noel Cruz, electric piano; Robert Cooper, string bass; Al Greers, drums.

Description
Seven audio cassettes; seven DAT tapes. This was a two-part recording released by the Florida Folklife Program [as a sequel to the 25th Anniversary of the Florida Folk Festival album] to honor the 40th Anniversary of the Florida Folk Festival. The finished album can be found on tapes 47 and 48 (on cassette) and tapes 36 and 37 (on DAT). The other tapes are various recordings of the Folk Festival from which the album's selection was made. The first 25th Anniversary album - covering the years 1953 through 1980-- can be found in S 1576, reel T83-135.

Description
One reel to reel recordings. Devine and Boltin served as emcee. Champion's tribute began on T86-146. Champion died in February 1986. Born 23 March 1938, Champion was a nationally recognized banjoist who wrote several instructional banjo manuals. In the early 1960s, he and Jim (later Gamble) Rogers were playing local clubs, along with Will McLean. He even recorded the soundtrack for the low-budget horror film 2000 Maniacs (directed by Herschel Gordon Lewis), filmed in Orlando. By the time of his death, he was a Florida Folk Festival regular, and major influence upon many Florida musicians.

One digital audio tape(DAT). Bronsztein played klezmer music on the clarinet with Landon Walker and Bonnie Whitehurst. The Versiteers, a Jacksonville-based a capella gospel group, consisted of L.V. Starling, Linda Carter, and Myrtle Butler. The Cortez Grand Old Opry featured Carl Spinks (guitar), JP "Goose" Culbreath (fiddle), Lamar Rogers (guitar), Maxine Jenkins (spoons), and Richard Culbreath (guitar).

Three reel to reel tapes. (Copied onto C86-135/136/137.) Recorded at Temple Beth Israel. They were a klezmer band which played traditional Jewish songs for weddings and other traditional ceremonies. The Dade Folk Arts Survey was conducted in 1986 by folklorists Tina Bucuvalas, Nancy Nusz and Laurie Sommers in order to identify folk arts and folk artists for the special folklife area at the 34th Annual Florida Folk Festival. One reel to reel recording. Copied onto C86-69. Joseph plays po lambi (conch shell). He also discusses its history and uses. Andre Max and George Edmond play drums and rhythm sticks. Gavilarine Moraville dances. Jaime Bronsztein, born 1940 plays traditional Jewish wedding songs, klezmer music. The folklife area in 1986 focused on Miami-Dade, which stemmed from fieldwork work on the 1986 Miami-Dade Folklife Survey, conducted by Lauri Sommers, Tina Bucuvalas, and Nancy Nusz.
