This audiocassette tape contains the first meeting of the Florida Folklife Council. Present were council members Foreman, González-Pando, Goza, Jabbour, Saunders and Sugrue; Florida Department of State personnel Levitt, Kelley, Warner, Kushner, Oppenheim, Morrell, Wilkins, and McMullen; and Folklife Program staff Werndli, Beauchamp, Belland, Bulger, and Greene.

Thirty-two black and white prints, plus negatives. Images of the Florida Folklife Area at the 1978 Florida Folklife Festival. Includes rattlesnake jewelry-maker Maggie Melton, whip cracker Claude Sheppard, basket maker Lucreaty Clark, chair maker Rufus Adams, the Osceola family, quilter Queenie Udell, cigar roller Domingo Rojas, and doll maker Bertha Burnham. Also includes images of folklorists Peggy Bulger and Merri Belland (P78-395, 396).

Description
One color slide. The images were created for the Florida Folklife Program's Seminole Slide and Tape Project, a program sponsored by the American Express Company in 1982-1983 to create two educational slide/tape programs for use by schools, community groups, and other educational outlets. One program dealt with sweetgrass basket making; the other on traditional Seminole patchwork. Recordings of the finished program tapes can be found in S 1576, Box 10. Teacher guides, program scripts, and documentation of the project can be found in S 1595, Box 1.

Includes seven images of Secretary of State Firestone, three of the Shoestring Puppeteers, one of folklorist Belland with the Holloways, Bowers cooking Seminole fry bread, two of Marie Norris's canning sign, several of various cooks (Occiano, Roberts, Mandeer Restaurant, Community Revival Center), the Minorcan Folklife Area, and of Lunested spinning cotton.

Includes of various office staff, including Beauchamp on the telephone. Also includes several images of the Folklore in Education Seminar, held 2 June 1982, that included state folklorist Peggy Bulger and folklorists Belland, Petersen, and Closson. The seminar focused on Hamilton and Columbia counties.
