He discusses learning music; attending Tuskegee Institute; teaching chemistry in Pensacola; varities of jazz music; working with artists like Cab Calloway and Duke Ellington; working for a radio station in New York City; leading a big band in the 1940s and 1950s; and various nightclubs in the Pensacola area.
